#2367 - Ye Olde Place, Rottingdean - A gloriously sunny evening found just shy of 30 BH7 members gathered at Ye Olde Place, formerly The Rottingdean Lounge Bar, before that the Rottingdean Club, and previously a part of the Olde Place Hotel. Minding heads on the low-ceiling, hashers gathered out back in the beer garden (a number with beers already in hand) as Mudlark gave the chalk talk and led them out of the side gate and N along the High St. Trail quickly crossed the road just before Kipling Gardens and around the pond before turning up Whiteway Ln (the road and then the footpath) to a check at the intersection. True trail was called down to Lustralls Rd, where the pack would then turn right (NE) on Dean Ct Rd and continuing on to the footpath. A fishhook and check greeted them at the top (where the footpath intersected with another footpath, technically Westmeston Ave), and Spreadsheet, Nasty Nips and Private Dancer would venture N some way before true trail was called S back down to the junction with Bishopstone Dr. Another check here had trail turning W back on to Whiteway Ln and back down to Dean Ct Rd - with Hash Gomi co-haring and marking the route it was referred to as an instance of 'Dave ja vu'! Turning left (SW) this time a long run would see FRBs Just Naomi and Private Dancer on the left side of the road; keeping a watchful eye out for marks (on the left?) and looking at the houses, PD would miss a rather large tree root across the path. Or rather, he didn't miss it and ended up taking quite the tumble and roll on the tarmac. PD, now a little worse for wear, continued with the pack on to the junction with The Grn and SO very nearly back to the pub, but a long check here would find NN, Peter Pansy, Rainbow Balls and Just Simon (a friend of RBs) checking up Falmer Rd and Bazehill Rd before being called back to head W around the N edge of Kipling Gardens (i.e. against the one-way system) and up towards the Windmill. A check at the footpath crossroads had trail running NNW to a fishhook at the edge of Beacon Hill Local Nature Reserve before turning back SSW, following the trail down behind what was the Blind Veterans building and then turning back E and back to the same crossroads encountered only minutes earlier. This time S to Beacon Hill Windmill (with the hare telling everyone to do a lap around the windmill) before heading down to A259 junction, over at the crossing and then left (E) along the cliff edge down to the seafront behind the White Horse and a dip into the sea. A number of hashers would brave the water (and nearby pipe - we've all read the recent Southern Water articles!), with RB swimming all the way out to the buoy, although it turned out the water was only waist deep as he stood up next to it. After cooling down, whether in sea or just on the beach, everyone headed back to the pub where NN would call circle, announcing that it was St John's Day (St. John the Baptist) and how fitting that we would be baptising this pub as it had only re-opened a few weeks prior and was (from what NN could gather) the first time BH7 had hashed from it. And so hares Mudlark & Knightrider were called up, with Hash Gomi being vocal that he too had hared but NN pointing out that he WASN'T a hare on the sign-in sheet... DDs to "Here's to the hares". Next up, a group call for Hash Gomi (for haring to save Β£1, and not being listed as a hare on the sign-in sheet), Spreadsheet (for proceeding the opposite way around the windmill to everyone else), Private Dancer (for his spectacular tumble), Peter Pansy (for being on the sign-in sheet as 'barfly' and then proceeding to be at the front most of the time, for fishhooking excessively, for general racism, and for offering to push Wiggy up a hill), Bonking Queen (for not using the A259 crossing and having to stop in middle of road - NN nominated as BQ driving) and finally LTP (for actually being on the sign-in sheet for once). DDs for all to "They're Stupid!". The details of the next hash were provided by KIU, along with a confirmation that his company had matched the funds raised in Dangleberry's memory. And so the circle was closed with a toast to the hash. - Nasty Nips
