Run #2374
12/08/2024
Ditchling
New start time of 19:00
#2374 - Beardsfield Nursery - Led by hares Trouble and Anybody, the pack would set out E from Beardsfield Nursery then N on trail behind the property and onto the FH#1 (all fishhooks would be for 8)., then turning E before looping back around SE towards Spatham Ln, and FH#2 before turning S. FH#3 and FH#4 would follow a short while later. Then SW, FH#5, and to The Mac's Farm and through a chicken coop! Amongst others, Ride It Baby in particular would be spotted picking up one of the very friendly chickens (discussions of renaming her to Chicken Hugger > Cock Hugger > Cock Smuggler would be had, but RIB she shall remain for now). Trail continued S with FH#6 at the entrance to Stoneywish Nature Reserve, and then E on Farm Ln. S onto Lewes Rd (B2116), turning W then S at Nye Ln, and FH#7 at the end of the trail before turning W / NW. FH#8 just before The Fieldway, crossing over Lewes Rd and N up The Twitten / The Dymocks and onto trail N. FH#9(!) here just before returning to The Mac's Farm. N following the trail and On Inn. (NN note: The hare insisted that there were 8 fishhooks, but this author did 9 and missed one - usually I'd have been able to note where it was but with so many I just don't know!).
Back at Beardsfield Nursery, the hares and Local Knowledge were called up for the first of the DDs to the tune of "Here's to the Hares". NN (RA'ing) then noted that the DDs tonight would revolve around fishhook-related offences because so much of the run was made up by fishhooks. Firstly, KIU for missing a FH and then proceeding to make up his own trail; next up, Bouncer, who stated that "he could lie and say he wasn't the back when he was", only for KIU to appear behind him in the distance; joining them, Trouble, just for an insane amount of fishhooks and that she was heard cackling afterwards; and finally Angel, who it had been noted (much like the fishhooks) had managed to get some extra distance in during the day and the hash was actually her third walk of the day (she needs lots of walking, just like a dog it was said!). DDs to "10,9,8". Next up, Formicator, who had been heard to exclaim that she didn't like her name (that never goes well!) and had taken a quite the tumble the week before at Devil's Dyke, was called up for a renaming; options were put to the hash, including Dyke Spike, Dyke Diver, Fallen Devil and Huggenkiss (an old Simpson's reference). The hash undeniably loved 'Dyke Diver'. Alongside her, Just Naomi (being named before her debut hare), would have the following names offered to the crowd: Hill's Angel (in reference to being from Burgess Hill and having the voice of an Angel), Oral Hooker (for singing and fishhooking), Blink and You'll Miss Her, and Eyeballs Out (both related to contact lens issues on trail). It goes without saying that Oral Hooker was almost unanimous in its approval. And so both would be named / renamed with only a little pomp and circumstance (no Latin, no robes and no mass of flour here I'm afraid). And so closed out another great hash. - Nasty Nips
