Run #2379
16/09/2024
Keymer
New start time of 19:00. One Erection 10th anniversary hash.
#2379 - The Greyhound, Keymer - Celebrations galore recently on the hash. This week's? One Erection's 10th anniversary of hashing. The trail? A little over 5 miles / 8km in length, with shiggy promised. Anything else to note? Oh yes, just that a steeplechase had been held in the area the day before and, as such, there were arrows out on trail that were NOTHING to do with the hash... What could possibly go wrong? And so the pack sent forth E out of the pub car park, N into The Crescent, and N onto the footpath passing all the houses before turning SE / E and to Lodge Hill Ln. FH10 here just before the road would see a number of people turning back, but definitely not a full complement of 10... Over Lodge Hill Ln, up the steps opposite and N through the field before crossing Lodge Hill Ln once more continuing N on the footpath until Lodge Hill Ln picked up once more and followed to Oldland Windmill at Mill Ln. Check here saw a number of FRBs head N but (after passing several options that did not yield marks) turning back and heading W on Mill Ln - true trail found and called - briefly N along Ockley Ln taking the first footpath into the estate and onto Mackie Ave. Mackie Ave followed all the way to Oak Tree Dr where a sharp turn arrow indicated trail W. But, as those FRBs (including Nasty Nips, Little Swinger, Lily The Pink and Private Dancer) would soon realise this was NOT the hash trail but rather they had picked up the steeplechase marks! PD, a little confusedly, ultimately came to realise that he had run through there as part of the steeplechase, and so the FRBs turned around and back to Mackie Ave and crossing paths with Balinor and Dyke Diver in the middle of the pack (both rather confused to see hashers joining them from their right). A short way S down Mackie Ave a check opposite Bromley Cl would indicate that the true trail had been re-joined, and pack headed W into the woods all the way to Woodsland Rd. S along Woodsland Rd, W through Von Dutch Tunnel and then S once more on Semley Rd / Stanford Ave and down the steps by the station and onto Keymer Rd. W up the hill then crossing over and S onto South Bank and Hassocks Cl and into the woods. FH10 about 500m in would see FRBs with a fair run back to the tail-end before continuing S, turning left over the railway bridge and immediately right (S) into the woods, then E, then N popping back out of the woods having done a little distance-adding dog-leg. Footpath followed to the farm, where a number of sleeping cows in the field would become rather agitated with the runners (and especially Merlin) disturbing their patch! A quick run through the field diagonally NE to the woods (another FH10 here, although again the runners turning back numbered less than that...) before following path around the houses and onto Lodge Ln, turning N and On Inn.
Back at the pub, 1E called up for the obligatory DD, to the tune of "Here's to the Hare". Next up, newbie Hannah from Hassocks who had disappeared on-trail (apparently we passed her house) and so Oral Hooker called up in her stead; Bouncer for loud comments about a 'Big Moon'; Half Moon for showing us the other half of her moon this week; and PD for being one of 13 people to do the steeplechase, and also living the closest and managing to be late to the hash!. DDs for all to "You're Stupid". Next up, Hot Fuzz for not doing the first FH (awarded to LTP as HF had already left) and NuSSSknacke Tyrolean for apparently being the only hasher to even do the second FH (which isn't even listed above) but also then NOT doing the third (listed) FH; DDs for both to "20 Toes". Next up, a rarity as St Bernard was caught shortcutting! And 1E for celebration of his 10th Hashing Anniversary; DDs for both to "Get a Life". And finally, Trouble officially received her 100th tankard; DD to "10,9,8". DDs done, NN read out a postcard RIB had received from Dangleberry's mum, with a touching thank you to all for spreading the ashes on the South Downs, before reminding all that the stile was due to be laid in the forthcoming weeks, and closing with a reminder that the Christmas Hash would be 23rd December @ Ladies Mile, Patcham. - Nasty Nips
