Run #2396

13/01/2025
New run time of 19:00
#2396 - The Refreshment Rooms, High Salvington - It's not often the hash get to enjoy a new pub, and it's probably a first to have a local convenience store in the pub! But the Refreshment Rooms promised exactly that with Harvey's on tap and available in bottles from the store too (the cakes looked nice as well), plus Bon Vivant crepes for afterwards πŸ˜›

With hares Bouncer and Angel covered in mud the night would promise to be a mud-filled affair, made all the more slippery by the recent snow thaw. And so with a quick chalk talk (4.65 miles and fishhooks), the hash set off S down Salvington Hill, turning (at the first check) onto Hayling Rise then (another check) onto Newling Way, then right (S) onto Mill Ln. Pack continued on S, missing the turn into the fields opposite the junction with Woodland Ave, earning a 'well there was a mark there earlier' from Bouncer as FRBs were called back. N now on the trail passing The Gallops playground and up the zig-zag path to Bost Hill; fishhook wholly expected at the top (it'd be criminal not to put one there), with FRBs Half Moon and me (Nasty Nips) the first of seven to turn around, and a little sprint towards the end would see me being number seven as well - luckily the back of the pack was only a short way back at this point. Trail continued SW on Bost Hill to the junction and a (H) (Hold) mark on the ground apparently causing confusion for those who hadn't done a Bouncer & Bollocks hash some time back. View Point here also marked as High Salvington Windmill lay at the junction - with several hashers pointing at that with our headtorches all shining on the windmill let's hope no-one lived in there. A few quick pictures taken and the pack continued N on West Hill road, turning off the trail and into No Man's Land (as OS maps have it marked) along West Hill itself then down the trail to Roger's Ln, headed N before turning back W before the A24, then N again alongside South Park and the second fishhook. L (W) at the end onto Monarch's Way, passing by Findon Place and the church, adorned with lovely lights along the road, and continuing to Long Furlong and fishhook number three. Not crossing the road, trail turned back S on the footpath (visitor Hard On On and myself making a wrong call here and taking the right fork before being called back), continuing on to Honeysuckle Ln with a little run through the trees to slow the pack down before the Sip Stop at the car park. Sip Stop would celebrate Dry January with a selection of... dry Roasted peanuts, sun-dried tomatoes, dried fruit, dry crackers, dry gin, dry cider and dry white wine. πŸ˜€ Wildbush stated that she had been waiting a while, as it transpired that the walkers had been led astray by Wildbush and Trouble and had cut the trail down to just 1.5 miles! On Inn was just a short jog down Honeysuckle Ln to the junction.

Back in the pub, and with crepes and toasties still being consumed, Bonking Queen would step up as RA, where tonight would apparently be a 'Persecution of Angel'. It was noted that with her being off for a few months soon, who would take over complaining?! And so the hares were called up with DD to "Here's to the hashers". Having just sat back down, Angel was called back up immediately for a bad 'On Right' call earlier when true trail was actually on left, earning her a "Stupid" DD and permanent-marker 'L' and 'R' on her hands; Bobble Chopper (who had a bad run of checks this night, getting the first six all wrong) called out she'd got the first one wrong sending BQ into a momentary panic before realising the wind-up. Next up visitor Hard On On, who's a Lancing local and last joined us a DB's memorial hash, with a quick DD to "10,9,8". Finally, Hard On On back up along with Keeps It Up and myself for Racism charges, and with BQ getting the drinks a little mixed up our DD's went from Harvey's to Snakebites! DDs to "Get A Life". Details for next week's hash (Jack and Jill at Clayton with Private Dancer and Oral Hooker haring) were provided, and another great hash closed out. - Nasty Nips
